St. James the Apostle Church is a Roman Catholic church located in Tomas Oppus, Southern Leyte, Philippines.

The town was formed by Republic Act No. 5777, enacted on June 21, 1969, by combining the villages of San Isidro, Punong, Hinapo, Rizal, Maslog, Banday, Cambite, Cabascan, Cawayan, Ana-hawan, Carnaga, Maanyag, Tinago, and Salvacion, all from the municipality of Malitbog. It was named after Filipino politician Tomas Oppus.

The said law stated that the seat of the government was in San Isidro. However, a referendum was held through Presidential Decree No. 134 on February 21, 1973, and voters chose the seat of the government to be located in Banday.

The church was established in 1905.
